"They See Red” - A Documentary About Period Poverty in Tanzania

This summer, I traveled to Tanzania with my friend, Emily Boyle, to create a documentary addressing period poverty.

Why did I go?

I embarked on this journey because I recognized that menstruation remains a taboo subject worldwide. The goal of this documentary is to encourage a broad audience to ask questions and shatter the silence surrounding this issue.

The documentary, "They See Red," which has a duration of 26 minutes, is based on our three-week expedition from rural areas to the economic capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam. The personal stories of several women provide a deeply human perspective on the situation.

Filming the documentary was an adventure in itself, as I had no prior knowledge of filmmakting. In this regard, Emily took the lead, while I provided more logistical support. We both learned a great deal from the wonderful people we encountered and gained valuable insights into the art of filmmaking. We were also fortunate to have Natalie's invaluable assistance in organizing our visits to the villages.

As I write this, the documentary is ready, and we are eagerly anticipating its release.

Here is the trailer.
